TileMan.io is a fast-paced multiplayer grid game created by tiledev where players compete to paint a sprawling grid in their own color. You start with a small base and expand your territory by steering your runner across open tiles, drawing an outline, and looping back to your home turf to fill the captured area.
Because every player shares the same map, expanding into new territory always brings risk. Leaving your base creates an exposed trail behind you. If an opponent crosses your exposed trail before you return to safety, or if you accidentally run into your own line, your run ends immediately.
How to play TileMan.io
The goal in every match is to claim territory, eliminate rival players, and climb the leaderboard.
- WASD or arrow keys: steer your character in four directions across the grid.
- E or P: stop character movement instantly to wait for the right moment.
- Space, Z, and X: send quick communication signals during matches.
When leaving your safe zone, your character leaves behind a colored trail. The territory enclosed by your path converts to your color the moment you loop back and touch any tile you already own. Staying inside your color keeps you completely safe from collisions, but you must venture outside into open ground to grow your score.
Game modes and rules
TileMan.io offers several distinct match modes with different rule sets:
- Classic: The core multiplayer experience where you battle rivals to conquer a massive grid map.
- Extreme Speed: Increases the movement pace dramatically, demanding fast reflexes and quick decisions.
- No Kills: Opponents cannot eliminate you directly by cutting your trail. When your trail breaks, you get a brief window of a few seconds to dash back to your safe tiles before losing.
- Rats: A tighter, high-density map where opponents appear around every corner and space is limited.
- Arena: A solo practice mode with a compact grid to conquer without any hostile opponents on the board.
Your performance is scored based on total tiles captured, opponent eliminations, and your leaderboard rank.
Tips for claiming territory
- Take small bites: Expanding in small, tidy loops near your home border minimizes the length of your exposed trail and reduces the chance of someone cutting you off.
- Use the pause feature: Pressing E or P stops your movement on the spot. Use this pause to observe approaching rivals before committing to an aggressive loop.
- Defend your perimeter: Watch for opponents expanding too close to your borders. If a rival ventures out with a long open line, cut across their path to knock them out of the match.
- Never cross your own trail: Turning into your active trail causes an instant self-elimination. Plan your turns before stepping away from your territory.
